Our leg vein treatments
Every treatment we offer is non-surgical and performed in our rooms, with no hospital admission and no general anaesthetic. What suits you depends on the size and depth of the vein, which is what the consultation and ultrasound establish.
Surface treatments
For veins you can see at the skin surface: spider veins, telangiectasia and fine surface veins.
Surface SclerotherapyAlso called microsclerotherapy or direct vision sclerotherapy
A fine needle injects a sclerosing solution into veins the doctor can see directly. Our first-line treatment for spider veins and small surface veins.
Surface Laser Vein TreatmentCutera Excel V
Laser energy applied through the skin to seal fine red veins. Needle-free, and a good option for patients who would rather avoid injections.
Endovenous treatments
For varicose veins and the faulty veins beneath them. All performed inside the vein under ultrasound guidance.
Ultrasound Guided SclerotherapyLiquid or foam. Also called UGS
Sclerosant delivered under ultrasound guidance into varicose veins below the skin surface. Foam is used where the solution needs to travel further along a larger vein.
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)Also called EVLT
A laser fibre is passed inside the faulty vein and withdrawn slowly, sealing it closed. The modern replacement for surgical vein stripping.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)CLOSUREFAST or VENEFIT
Controlled heat delivered through a catheter inside the vein, under ultrasound guidance, to close it from within. Our doctor uses CLOSUREFAST.
Endovenous Medical GlueAlso called VenaSeal or cyanoacrylate closure
A medical adhesive seals the vein closed. No heat, one small injection point, and usually no compression stockings afterwards.
Which one is right for me?
It starts with the vein, not the treatment. What you can see on the skin, and what the ultrasound finds beneath it, decides the approach. Larger feeding veins are always treated before the smaller surface veins they supply.
Spider veins
Fine red or blue veins at the skin surface. Usually treated at the surface.

How treatment is decided
Every patient has a consultation and ultrasound assessment before any treatment is recommended. No GP referral is needed for the consultation.
Consultation and examination
One of our leg vein doctors takes your history and examines your legs from groin to feet.
Doppler ultrasound
A screening scan checks the groin and back of the knee for deeper vein problems that surface treatment alone would not fix.
Your treatment plan
Findings are explained and the right treatment, or combination, is recommended. A detailed mapping scan may be arranged if needed.
What it costs
An initial consultation is $230, and most patients are $150 or less out of pocket after the Medicare rebate. It includes a full examination, a venous ultrasound and a personalised treatment plan with the exact cost of your own treatment.
